Easy shore entry and good visibility with a nice variety of fish, worms, sponges and coral.
Whitespotted Filefish
Longfin damselfish (juvenile)
Bristleworm
Green Finger Sponge
Ocean Surgeonfish and the blindingly bright Yellowtail Damselfish (juvenile)
Magnificent Feather Duster ... I was surprised to learn this is a worm
Schools of Yellowtail Snappers(?) and Glassy Sweepers hanging out under an outcropping.
I loved the seaweed floating near the surface.
Something chomped off the tail end of this fish. It was still alive even though I could see the bone sticking out!
Christmas Tree Worms living on a type of brain coral. Orange Cup Coral (tentacles withdrawn) on left.
Sharptail Eel
Extraordinary example of Elkhorn coral
Yellowtail damselfish trying to blend in with the Yellow Tube Sponge
Puddingwife Wrasse
Erect Rope Sponge
West Indian Sea Egg
Longspine Squirrelfish
Coney (juvenile - dark phase)
Pink Feather Duster Tube Worm
Smooth Trunkfish
Caribbean Reef Squid
Peacock Flounder ... note both eyes are on the same side
A directionally challenged Trumpetfish hanging out upside down
Little air bubbles
Sergeant Major (type of damselfish) ... notoriously aggressive when it comes to food. When fed these fish will proliferate at the expense of other species. Think before you feed!
Coney (juvenile-dark phase)
Stoplight Parrotfish (juvenile)
Princess Parrotfish (juvenile) at a cleaning station with Bluehead Wrasses (also juvenile)
I used Google and these excellent resources to assist with identification of the things I saw:
- Florent's Guide to the Tropical Reefs (very comprehensive and clear pictures)
- SnorkelStJ (categorized by color).
Any mistakes are all mine ... they all start looking alike after a while.
